Infertility and Ayurvedic Treatment

What is Infertility according to Ayurveda?

The problems of infertility in men and women have been cured by our sages and saints since historic times. Ayurveda is an ancient medical system, and it includes use of complex herbal compounds, minerals and metal substances (rasha shastra). Ayurveda provides the knowledge regarding four essential components of conception, such as seed (sperm and oocyte), soil (reproductive track), season (fertile period) and water (nutrition). Chances of infertility arise in women when ‘shukra dhatu’ that produces egg in women and sperms in men do not get appropriate nutrition. This arises from:

  • Lack of nutritious diet
  • Poor digestion
  • Due to presence of toxins (‘ama’) in the body
  • Often sexual promiscuity and sexual indulgence can lead to infertility.

Ayurvedic treatment assists in infertility treatment by regularizing metabolism of the whole body, cleansing reproductive organs, improving endometrium lining and receptivity, maintaining hormonal equilibrium; increase in egg and sperm quality and in relieving in stress.

Ayurveda has a long tradition of supporting and strengthening pregnancy and it emphasizes nutrition period as much as the period of pregnancy itself. No matter what your previous experience of infertility, Ayurveda offers an integrated approach to fertility between men and women in an equally important manner. It offers simple treatment without surgical procedures or use of drugs which may have side effects while curing infertility.

There are some factors such as stress, toxins and prolactin hormones, which may reduce the chances of conceiving.

Ayurvedic remedy to lower prolactin

The normal secretion of hormone prolactin ensures healthy and necessary changes in the body. When Prolactin is high, the pituitary gland prevents too much prolactin hormone. Some common symptoms of such excess hormones are seen in women with irregular menstrual bleeding, pain and enlarge the breasts, etc. It is necessary to address this problem under the supervision of doctors.

Ayurveda uses natural components and effective drugs to control hormone prolactin. Its purpose is to eliminate the physical system, not only inside, but also to clean, repair and improve living life.

Stress and Infertility

Examining stress and fertility is important because it is closely related to all nutrients present in the body. Stress literally blocks the pituitary gland, the hormone in the brain that is first transmitted to ovaries for ovulation.

Continuous stimulation of cortisol, stress hormone, causes alertness of the nervous system and panic. Therefore, more stress is associated with an inability of the body to absorb nutrition and become fertile. More research is needed to establish the findings of stress with fertility. Stress, injuries and anxiety have been shown to affect the fertility of women and sperm along with testosterone levels.

Factors help Infertility

Before conception according to Ayurveda there are four important factors that should work better together timing (rtu), the field (kshetra), nutrition and fluids (ambu) and seeds (bija).

  • Timing (rtu)

Most couples emphasize this more than any other factor. Start with the basic question: "Are we ready?" This question has to continue in the women's menstrual cycle to determine when ovulation is happening. The seasons are also an important consideration in time, where nature is generally fertile is during spring.

  • Healthy and Nutritious Field (kshetra)

Proper food is very important to cure anything. Ayurveda has many natural cures for infertility. Garlic and licorice are believed to increase the fertility of the reproductive fluid.
