Viewing pornography is a common sexual practice all over the world. All men and women enjoy it, yet pretend they don’t like it. There are many misconceptions about the relationship between pornography and sexual disorders.

It is considered a dirty thing. In India, viewing pornography in public is a criminal offense and persuading a woman to watch pornography is tantamount to sexual assault which is a criminal offence. It’s perfectly fine to be seen in the privacy of your bedroom, with or without your sexual partner.

How many times should you watch

There are no hard and fast standards. But sometimes it is healthy to see it as an aid to arousal and to have sex with partner but masturbating frequently can cause some problems. Sometimes people limit themselves to viewing pornography for sexual gratification.
It is dangerous and can have some serious effects on a person’s relationships, sexual function, and social and work relationships.

Some of these include:

• Relationship problems. Frequent use of pornography can give people unrealistic expectations of sex.

They may begin to expect their partner to look or act a certain way during sexual activity. Partners may feel inadequate, insecure and excluded. There may be resentment, arguments, withdrawal and less communication and intimacy between couples. There are couples coming to me who want their penis to be like porn movies. A woman chose to divorce her husband because she wanted sex as long as an exclusive porn movie – it’s ridiculous.

• Sexual dysfunction. Some men develop erectile dysfunction and delayed ejaculation if they masturbate while watching pornography.

Over time, over-stimulation causes changes in the brain that make them insensitive to a real partner. The partner will not be “enough” for an erection or orgasm. They may need pornography to have sex with another person. It is not uncommon. Such people should gradually get away from pornography.

• Social and occupational problems.

Too much pornography use can cause some people to isolate themselves from their friends and family. Their work may be impacted or they may be fired for using pornography at their workplace. If they have more money than they can spend on pornography, then they may also be in financial trouble.

• Psychological issues.

Many people feel guilty and ashamed for using pornography because they view it as immoral. They may feel anxious about keeping their secret or getting caught
